The Responsible Sourcing Scheme Supports Peat-Free Consumer Messaging

by | Sep 14, 2025 | News & Updates | 0 comments

The responsible Sourcing Scheme has been actively collaborating with key organisations within the horticultural sector to develop and share consistent consumer messaging around peat-free products. Despite the move towards a peat-free industry, many gardeners remain uncertain about the benefits and usage of peat-free compost.

To address this, the RSS has partnered with horticultural retailers, manufacturers, NGOs’ and trade bodies to clarify misconceptions and provide clear, simple, and accurate information about peat-free growing media. The initiative aims to support both amateur and professional gardeners in making informed decisions.

The initiative was formally launched at the Garden Press Event on the 18th February to coincide with the start of the new growing season. This campaign represents a significant step in promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility across the horticultural industry.
